Large-volume buildings such as industrial halls, workshops, production areas or food markets place high demands on economical hall heating. Conventional convection heating systems heat the air - and that is precisely the crux of the matter: warm air rises, cools down and leaves the room every time there is movement or an opening.

In halls with high ceilings in particular, a large proportion of the heat generated is lost upwards unused. At the same time, frequent opening of gates, loading ramps or entrance doors draws cold outside air into the hall again and again. The warm air escapes - the heating system works against constant heat loss. The result: high energy costs and yet a cool workplace.

CASE STUDY

GERLITZEN MOUNTAIN RAILWAY, KÄRNTEN INGENIOUS WARMTH FOR MOUNTAIN RAILWAYS

THE INITIAL SITUATION

A prerequisite for a successful ski resort are perfectly prepared pistes - and a prerequisite for this is equipment in perfect working order. Gerlitzen Montain Railways was therefore looking for a heating system which would control the temperature in the piste caterpillar garage in order to ensure the defrosting of frozen snow on the piste equipment and thus prevent damage and downtime.

THE ETHERMA SOLUTION

In large halls, it is often not economical to heat the entire area - Area heating is often more effective in this case. IRE infrared radiant heaters are ideal for heating high, large spaces. A total of 12 IRE quartz heaters were installed for Gerlitzen Mountain Railways. These were controlled by means of a single button with time control. This enabled a significant drop in piste equipment repair costs - offsetting the purchase costs after only two seasons.
