OPEN SPACE HEATING SYSTEM Safety and comfort all winter-long.

ETHERMA GSN For maximum load in mastic asphalt paving

The ETHERMA GSN heating mat was specially developed for installation in mastic asphalt - a material that can reach temperatures of up to 250 °C during installation. Thanks to the highly heat-resistant silicone outer insulation, the GSN series offers the necessary resistance to work reliably even under these extreme conditions.

Whether ramps, loading zones, stairs or other outdoor areas with traffic - GSN heating mats ensure safe, ice- and snow-free surfaces even at sub-zero temperatures. This minimizes the risk of accidents and maximizes the usability of outdoor areas - without any manual effort.

CASE STUDY

SHOPPING CENTER, PARKING FLOORS, SEIERSBERG OPEN-AIR HEATING SYSTEM, RENOVATION

THE INITIAL SITUATION

Because of the open architecture of the parking area in Seiersberg, the individual parking floors are always prone to ice and snow build-ups in winter. As part of the renovation of the ramps, an open-air heating system was therefore installed in the mastic asphalt in order to keep the connecting ramps free from snow and ice. Structural problems and installation depth limitations required the use of mastic asphalt.

THE ETHERMA SOLUTION

The maximum incline for the application of mastic asphalt is 15% - because of the angle of incline of the ramp, the heating mats had to be fixed in place beforehand in order to prevent potential slippage. Two layers of mastic asphalt were then applied - in spite of the incline, it was possible to lay the entire structure with a thickness of only 4 cm. The control system in this case was also fully automated thanks to a humidity and temperature-dependent control system. In addition, heating strips were laid in the drainage ditches to ensure the drainage of melted ice water.

ALPENSTRASSE SHOPPING CENTER, CAR PARK, SALZBURG OPEN-AIR HEATING SYSTEM, NEW-BUILD

THE INITIAL SITUATION

This new-build shopping centre required an open-air heating system to keep the entrance and exit routes safe and free from snow and ice. The angle of incline of the entrance and exit routes posed a major challenge. A traditional installation - laying the mats on a concrete base - was therefore not possible. A specialised solution was required.

THE ETHERMA SOLUTION

A bespoke specialised lining was developed together with the construction company, and laid on the concrete. This made it possible to ensure that the ETHERMA heating mats would not slip and float when laid onto the mastic asphalt. A core component of the overall solution was its humidity and temperature-dependent control system, which guarantees its safe operation and helps to cut operating costs.
