HISTORY A long tradition.

FROM 1981 TO 1989.

1981 - Foundation
With decades of experience in the field of plant and power plant construction as well as in sales management for electric heating systems, Peter Reiter founded ETHERMA in 1981.

1982
Our core business comprises heating systems for private and public residential buildings, hotels and commercial buildings with underfloor storage heating. This period was marked by excellent sales, the development of new calculation and dimensioning methods in the absence of standards and experience, and the development of new, more efficient control methodologies. This time was also notable for the development of practical linking crossbars which are still a favourite amongst installers because of their flexible and rapid installation. A wide selection of heating mat sizes enables precise planning based on performance and spatial geometry.

1986
Planning and execution of Europe's first fully electrically heated major hotel with underfloor storage heating. Market launch of our in-house designed silicon constant heating strips, WPH for heating long pipes (400 V) and SHK for roof gutter heating. Expansion into foreign markets (Germany, Spain), initial cooperation with - and supply to - electrical wholesalers such as Elin, Siemens i-center, further major orders with housing co-operatives, project planning and commissioning for Hotel Ananas (the largest electrically heated hotel in Vienna).

1988
Development of netted heating mats for laying in tile adhesive beds. Patent protection at the Munich Patent Office. A product with a history of success. Thanks to our stitching technology, this is still the easiest to lay heating mat on the market.

FROM 1990 TO 1999.

1990

Heating for more than 1000 apartments with underfloor, storage, partial storage or direct heating, particularly in social housing.
Set-up of sales office in Vienna, major order, project planning and supply of electrical underfloor heating for Hotel Sobiesky in Warsaw.

1994
Further consolidation on the domestic market, sales partnerships established in Switzerland and the Netherlands. 1993 ETHERMA Skandinavia OY established in Finland.

1996
Construction of a new operations building with modern office spaces and a production hall for heating mat production in Henndorf. Our product range is expanded to include church pew heating panels and foot warming plates.

1997
Introduction of underfloor convection heaters made from extruded aluminium for heating homes with wooden floor structures and to prevent descending cold air from large glazed surfaces.

1998
ST heating mats for laying in mastic asphalt are significantly improved by incorporating a sturdy glass mesh into the practical support crossbars. An unparalleled product (patent protected at the Munich and Vienna Patent Offices), which allows laying without fixture to the floor, and eliminates floating in mastic asphalt. Particularly suitable for heating helicopter landing pads.

FROM 2000 TO DATE

2000
The introduction of electro-smog free dipole heating conductors on a self-adhesive large-mesh support net marked the birth of our DS tile heating system. VDE tested in accordance with DIN EN 60335-1 (VDE 0700-1):2007-02

2003
Our NSP heating mats with Teflon-insulated heating conductors were developed for retrofitting of open-air heating on existing concrete or asphalt surfaces. These are installed in a polyurethane or epoxy resin surface layer only 15 - 20 mm thick.

2008
LAVA Design infrared heating was a perfect addition to ETHERMA's range of heating systems for wall mounting. In addition to its sophisticated, elegant design available in white, red, black and mirror colours, these heating panels provide comfortable radiant warmth. Takeover of distribution for Olsberg types III and II night storage heaters for Austria. Subsidiary established in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina.

2009
ETHERMA Deutschland GmbH established. Mag. Thomas Reiter becomes Managing Director of both companies in Austria and Germany.

2010
ETHERMA becomes an exclusive sales partner for SOLAMAGIC products, and thus expands its product portfolio in the infrared heating segment with these high-quality shortwave infrared radiators.

2011
Major success at KBIS (the world's largest kitchen and bathroom trade fair) in Las Vegas, where LAVA is awarded "Best Product in Show".

2012
Plant 2 opens in Henndorf as a new production facility in order to be able to meet the significant demand for LAVA Design infrared heating systems.

2013
Development of a new corporate identity - including a facelift for the ETHERMA logo. Our product range in the thermostat segment is further expanded with the addition of the much-loved eTOUCH series.

2014
ETHERMA is a founding member of the IG-Infrared Association, which has set itself the task of establishing binding quality standards for the booming infrared heating sector.

2017
In December 2017, another important step was taken towards internationalization. ETHERMA Holding GmbH is the result of the merger of Jowitherm Nederland BV and ETHERMA Elektrowärme GmbH based in Henndorf. At the same time Jowitherm Nederland BV became ETHERMA Benelux BV. As a result, ETHERMA Austria plays a dual role as sales organization for Austria and as the seat of production. ETHERMA Germany and ETHERMA Benelux are sales subsidiaries.

2018
Viessmann, one of the leading international manufacturers of heating, industrial and cooling systems, participates in ETHERMA. The ETHERMA location in Salzburg with its local production will be strengthened by the investment, because growth potential can now be better exploited.
