Our history From idea to brand for sustainable heat

It all began in 1981, when company founder Peter Reiter experienced the power of clean energy at the Kaprun storage power plant. His vision: to heat buildings efficiently and directly with electricity from renewable sources - without the use of fossil fuels.

This idea gave rise to ETHERMA, an Austrian company that has been developing and manufacturing high-quality electric heating systems for over 40 years.

From the first electric floor heating systems to modern infrared panels and smart heating solutions, we are pioneers in the industry and set standards in sustainability, innovation, and design.

One particular advantage is customization. Many of our heating solutions are tailored to specific project and customer requirements - from mesh heating mats for unusual room geometries to infrared panels with individual designs. This enables us to deliver heat that is not only efficient but also perfectly suited to the application in question.

Today, ETHERMA operates internationally - with locations in Germany, Benelux, and the Nordics - and works with strong partners worldwide. Our motivation remains the same as on day one: to rethink heat to make the world cleaner, healthier, and more livable.

ETHERMA does not just supply products, but complete, tailor-made heating solutions - from initial consultation, planning and assembly to installation support and commissioning. The result is a fully coordinated solution comprising the system, control and service, which ensures schedules are met and minimises interface risks. Our portfolio ranges from underfloor heating, infrared panels and radiators, heat pumps and direct heating systems to frost protection solutions and control technology - all technically coordinated and from a single source. This is complemented by smart controls for efficient individual room control and convenient operation. We also offer planning, support, and installation assistance-a single point of contact from the initial consultation to commissioning-as well as eWARRANTY for strong long-term protection. The result: minimal interfaces and maximum reliability.

Quality "Made in Europe" – 40+ years of experience.

 

We manufacture in-house - quality-tested and certified - and rely on durable materials and clear standards. The result: robust products with predictable performance, backed by over 40 years of experience. For infrared heaters, the European Quality Label, among others, certifies the high manufacturing and testing standards, and with eWARRANTY, we provide long-term coverage for selected products for up to 30 years. This gives planners, architects, and installers maximum reliability from the tender stage to acceptance.

Customization instead of compromises.

 

ETHERMA offers custom-made products not only for underfloor heating: we manufacture mesh heating mats exactly according to plan for special floor plans and applications such as bathrooms, wellness areas, benches, or shower trays.

In addition, we assemble heating tapes for frost protection-with custom-made connection cables and factory-fitted, waterproof insulation for quick installation; we are also happy to do this based on your CAD plans. And with infrared heating systems, we offer true customization: LAVA® DYL 3.0 can be manufactured with a personal motif (e.g., photo or company logo) behind glass on request, turning the heating system into a design element.

Future-proof – eco-design ready & compliant.


Our electric heaters meet the current requirements of the EU Ecodesign Regulation (EU) 2024/1103 - either directly or in combination with suitable controllers (e.g., weekly program, window detection, adaptive heating start). The smart individual room control ensures that heating is only used where it is needed - efficiently and transparently.

Security that sells – eWARRANTY for up to 30 years.

 

The extended warranty is a strong selling point for installers and gives end customers long-term security. Activation is simple and can be carried out by the end customer-no additional effort is required on the part of the installer.

Planning support for professionals – our service quality.

 

We think projects through from start to finish: from quick quotes and heat demand analysis to reliable sizing and drawing/specification checks to installation support and commissioning. Our team of experts is available on short notice (hotline/video consultation), provides clear documentation, and, if you want, takes care of packaging, scheduling, and approvals-so you can stay on schedule. In short: highly competent, solution-oriented, and ready for anything.

Sustainably ahead – PFAS-free.

 

Sustainable heat without compromise: All ETHERMA heating mats - including our eFLOOR series - are now 100% free of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances). These "forever chemicals" are considered harmful to the environment and human health and are only broken down very slowly in nature. ETHERMA is setting a good example and has made a conscious decision to avoid PFAS - for your safety, for the environment, and for future generations. Without compromising on quality or service life.
